Something New:
Transmission Meditation
by Rev. Sue Annabrooke Jones
Transmission Meditation is a unique form of meditation, most
notably with respect to its goal, which is not to benefit the meditator, but rather to serve humanity and
the many other evolving life forms on this planet.
Established in the 1970s by artist, psychic and author
Benjamin Creme, under the auspices of an inner planes teacher, transmission meditation is a group service
activity that is said to "step down" the great spiritual energies that continually stream onto our planet from higher
spheres. Creme likens this process to that of electrical transformers, which step down the power between
generators and ordinary household outlets.
During transmission meditation, the Masters of Wisdom‡ are
said to direct energies from the highest spiritual planes through the energy centers (chakras) of the
meditators, thus creating a pool of useable energy. Based on their greater understanding of our world, these Masters then
redirect this stepped-down energy, at their discretion, to wherever it is most needed at the moment. These transformed
spiritual energies are said to be gradually lifting all life forms and changing our world for the
better.
The Practice of Transmission Meditation
Transmission meditation is performed in groups of three or more
people, for one hour, sometimes longer. After intoning The Great Invocation, the meditators sit quietly in a
comfortable position, focusing their attention on the brow chakra (the sixth chakra, or ajna center).
Sustaining this focus is all important: if the meditator's mind wanders, he or she slips out of transmission,
and the potency of the group's effort diminishes until the focus is regained. This is one reason why, generally
speaking, the larger the group, the more potent the energies are.
Experiential and Beneficial Aspects
Some meditators report feeling a light tingling or pleasant
"energy bath" sensation around the head and shoulders during transmission; others claim they experience currents
of healing energy flowing out through their hands, feet, heart, throat or even their entire body.
Transmitters often use terms like "aligned," "attuned," or "ecstatic" to describe what they experience during
transmission.
These positive secondary effects may linger for a few hours,
or even longer. Those who practice transmission meditation on a weekly basis often say that during the interim,
they find it easier to demonstrate love, or that their minds are clearer or more stimulated and creative. Others
claim that transmitting every week enhances their personal meditation practice.
Challenging Aspects of Transmission Meditation
While the transmission meditation technique itself is simple,
it presents some interesting and often amusing challenges for both beginners and experienced meditators.
Persons who approach transmission meditation with no experience with any form of
meditation may find it hard at first to sustain the necessary focus for an entire sitting. The mind loves to wander,
and an hour can seem like an eternity to a beginner. Too, novices are easily distracted by images that typically well
up from the subconscious mind during meditation, and the beginner must train himself or herself to gently bring the
attention back to the brow center, without causing further distraction with self-recriminating thoughts.
Transmission meditation is a passive form of meditation. The
energies being transmitted must be allowed to flow through the meditators unimpeded and undirected. Experienced
meditators who are accustomed to taking an active role in directing energies through other meditation practices often
find that "doing nothing" takes some getting used to.
Both beginners and experienced meditators are usually able to
adjust to the unique nature of transmission meditation after a few sessions.
Transmission meditation is just one of the more than 100 meditation
methods found in the Mental Yentl Database. To find out if Transmission meditation is recommended for you,
